The Salem Blue Devils Percussion Ensemble ended its very successful season as finalists at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH for the second year in a row. There were many people who contributed to the acheivements of 2010-2011. Parents and volunteers pitched in to donate equipment, drive trucks, move equipment, build/paint props, paint the floor canvas, build a harness rack, build/fix equipment carts, buy food, prepare meals, and more.. The Parents Music Club supplied the funding needed to purchase drum heads, mallets, and microphones, not to mention an equipment trailer! Billerica High School was kind enough to let us borrow a marimba for the trip to Dayton. The staff (most of which is volunteer) spent about 400 hours writing music, many more designing choreography/drill, and roughly 20 hours per week (including commute time) rehearsing the ensemble. Students spent 13 hours per week at rehearsals and countless more practicing on their own to learn and memorize a very challenging show. They expanded their knowledge of music, explored the world of dance, and raised their level of performance to new heights. Thanks to everyone who came together to make this season a success! |
